Organizers are serving up what they hope will be an amazing event — so the venue choice makes a lot of sense.
Latinos Salud is hosting its signature “DiversiSAFE” event in Broward County next month at the Gallery of Amazing Things in Dania Beach.
The May 12 gala event is designed to be a celebration, but also a way for Latinos Salud to update the community on the fight against HIV/AIDS in South Florida.
The nonprofit serves South Florida with locations in Wilton Manors, Miami Beach and Kendall. It primarily focuses on services for gay Latinos, anyone living with HIV, and anyone who identifies as transgender.
DiversiSAFE (a mash-up for “diversity” and “safe”) is the annual event where Latinos Salud “rolls out the red carpet to welcome the entire community to the event of the season,” a news release said.
“DiversiSAFE is about community, hope, and most of all, celebration,” co-founder Rafaelé Narváez said in a statement. “Everyone in the community is invited to our celebration.”
There were about 500 guests at last year’s event in Miami who enjoyed an evening of networking, hors d’oeuvres, drinks and entertainment.
Organizers said they are “upping the entertainment factor” this year, bringing in special guest performer Tatianna from RuPaul’s Drag Race.
“The DiversiSAFE dancers will bring artistry to the evening, and the DiversiSAFE role models will return,” the release said. Local DJ, AJ Reddy, will be on hand for the evening as well.
“DiversiSAFE is not just another awards banquet; it’s a high-energy and empowering community event,” said Latinos Salud board co-chair Juan Oves in a statement.
The price for entry is a “pick your pledge” format. Attendees designate a donation and any additional amount goes toward Latinos Salud.
Entry includes access to event festivities as well as hors d’oeuvres and an open bar (for those 21 and up). Organizers said advance registrations are available for as little as $30 per person.
“Those guests who pick the top tier registrations — $125 or $250 per person — will not only significantly support the agency’s services, but also be invited to the VIP meet and greet with Tatianna and with the DiversiSAFE dancers or role models,” the release said.
Those who pre-register will receive gift bags and free valet parking.
“We’ve updated our DiversiSAFE information pamphlet, and it will be included in everyone’s gift bag,” Stephen Fallon, the agency’s executive director said in a statement.
“This resource, created by Latinos Salud, has exciting news and great tips for everyone, whether HIV-negative or HIV-positive, Latino or not, young or experienced. We’re out to defeat stigma, homophobia, and most of all, HIV. Who says you can’t come for the fun, and leave with a little information?” he said.
The event starts at 7 p.m. The Gallery of Amazing Things is located at 481 South Federal Highway.
