Tampa – A couple received some strong words of advice from famous columnist “Dear Abby” when the anti-gay couple sent in a letter after their neighbors shunned them and called them bigots.

The couple, under the anonymous pen name “Unhappy in Tampa,” sent a letter saying they do not approve of two couples in their new neighborhood being gay and their “lifestyle,” so they did not include them when it was their turn to host. They have since then been excluded from neighborhood gatherings and were called bigots.
The couple ended the letter with the question “… who is the true bigot here?”

Jeanne Phillips, who writes the “Dear Abby” columns, responded by saying that being gay wasn’t a lifestyle; you are born that way.

“I find it interesting that you are unwilling to reciprocate the hospitality of people who welcomed you and opened their homes to you, and yet you complain because you are receiving similar treatment,” wrote Abby.

Phillips ended her response by stating, “… if you interact only with people like yourselves, you will have missed a chance for growth, which is what you have been offered here. Please don’t blow it.”
