Come And ‘Taste’ History At Stonewall Museum

The Historic Stranahan Museum

Monique Force-Setlock, the Director of Development for the Stonewall National Museum of Archives, knows there is a need to preserve history, especially in this current social climate.

One way Stonewall is honoring history is giving a “taste” to those in the community. The event is called “A Taste of History,” and it’s happening Nov. 15, but was originally planned on Oct. 11 to honor “National Coming Out Day.”

Force-Setlock said the museum wanted to hold a “fun event where we give everybody a taste of history, so to speak.” She added this event is a food-themed event to help bring the community together.

“It’s very important because especially at this time, the challenges that we are facing in this country, there’s an even greater need to share and preserve history and we felt that this event was a great event to do that,” Force-Setlock said.

The museum partnered with local businesses to help “celebrate the strides” the LGBT community has accomplished by creating a fun, food-themed and community uniting event.

“Here at the museum, we are about celebrating history,” Force-Setlock said.

Some of the food vendors that will be at the event include What the Pho?, New York Grilled Cheese, Pink Sub, Sidecar Kitchen, and Kilwins.

Sponsors for the event include the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and realtor Julio Rodriguez of Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate in Fort Lauderdale. The Historic Stranahan Museum is also a sponsor.

The funds raised from the event will go towards the “Stonewall National Education Project.” This project holds symposiums every year to educate LGBT youth. In 2019, they plan to hold it at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.

“We bring together educators, and people from all over the country and they come together for the 3-day symposium, talk about how to keep our kids safe in schools, ow to support LGBTQ youth, Force-Setlock said.

Tickets for the event cost $50 in advance and $60 the day of. The event takes place at The Historic Stranahan MuseumParking is at the Riverside Hotel garage for $3 for the first hour and $1 per additional hour. Visit for more information and to buy tickets.
