Who knew charity could be so revealing?
Welcome to the annual “Bartenders, Boxers and Briefs” underwear auction hosted by Georgie’s Alibi. The fundraising event is scheduled for July 17 at 8 p.m. at the Wilton Manors hotspot. Proceeds benefit Tuesday’s Angels, a Fort Lauderdale based HIV/AIDS service organization.
“It’s a fun event and what I like about it is it’s so unusual,” said Chuck Nicholls, Tuesday’s Angels Vice President.
More than $100,000 has been raised from the event, which places area bars and businesses in competition to produce prize-winning packages. Bill’s Filling Station, Nicholls said, launched the event 12 years ago. As reported last year in SFGN, bartenders representing the Alibi, Boardwalk, Beefcakes Grill, Hunter’s Nightclub, Village Pub and Scandal’s Saloon participated.
Don Clark, general manager of Georgie’s Alibi, called the 2016 event, which raised $9,000, a “successful night.” Tuesday’s Angels, Clark said, fills the gaps missed by government agencies in regard to the care of people living with HIV/AIDS. The non-profit assists men, women and children with a variety of needs from water and electric bills to transportation to air conditioning repair.
