Steve Grand and his piano are returning to Fort Lauderdale.
Grand, the openly gay singer-song writer, performs Saturday night at Sunshine Cathedral. He took a few minutes out of his busy schedule to speak with SFGN via telephone from Chicago Wednesday afternoon.
“I love Fort Lauderdale,” Grand said. “I always do very well there and I like what the church is all about and what it stands for.”
Grand, 26, grabbed the spotlight in 2013 with a video titled “All American Boy.” He followed the video’s success with a Kickstarter campaign and was soon traveling the globe as a musical ambassador for the LGBTQ community.
On his Santa wish list this year is nothing materialistic, said Grand.
“My continued health and happiness,” Grand replied when asked what he wanted from jolly ol’ St. Nick. “I am so lucky and grateful for the life I have and have worked for and for all the gifts and privileges.”
While grateful, Grand remains driven to do more. He recently completed a renovation to his recording studio and sound booth. The months long project provided Grand with a “steadier rate” of production and much needed behind the scenes work.
“I love working, creating and starting new business ventures,” he said.
When traveling, Grand said he is occasionally recognized by fans of the “All American Boy” video although the singer is sporting a more scruffier look these days.
“I’m growing my hair out,” he said. “It’s a more natural, masculine look.”
Tickets for Saturday’s show are $35 online and $40 at the door. For more information, visit www.SunshineCathedral.org
