Jeanette "Jen" Mojica, a longtime South Florida LGBT community activist, passed away Sept. 14.

She was 59.

Mojica is survived by her partner Laurie Whittaker. Together, the women ran Sidelines, a once popular sports bar in Wilton Manors.

Mojica attended Florida State University and graduated with a Bachelors of Musical Education. During her time in college she met Whittaker after singing at a halftime show. They were together almost 38 years.

Besides her time at Sidelines Mojica spent 20 years working in the cruise sales industry and ten years for VISA as an executive in marketing.

“Some of the best times on the Drive!” posted Mike Trottier, a friend of Mojica, on Facebook. “I will always love you sweet, funny lady. And big laugh too! This brings tears to my eyes and breaks my heart.”

There will be a celebration of life for Mojica in October in or near Wilton Manors.
