Each month HIV service providers and members of the HIV infected and affected communities meet to exchange information and gain knowledge about HIV at the monthly meeting of the South Florida AIDS Network (SFAN). Below are the highlights of the SFAN meeting on January 10, 2014.
Integration of the Affordable Care Act with the Ryan White Care program
Joey Wynn discussed the integration of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) with the Ryan White Care (RWC) Program. About one-quarter of Ryan White clients have incomes allowing them to enroll in, and receive subsidies for, health insurance under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Ryan White can only provide services to people with no other access to health care. Therefore, the ACA eligible Ryan White clients will have to enroll in an ACA plan. According to Joey Wynn, no client will be dis-enrolled from care in this migration. People in the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), Ryan White, and the ACA have been working to make this transition client friendly. This does not mean that minor problems will not occur, but that people are ready and willing to help them resolve the minor problems.
While the ACA plans cover many health services, they do not cover dental care. Ryan White clients with ACA health plans should still receive dental care through Ryan White. For information on dental health services under Ryan White Care, or to set up an appointment, call 954-467-4700 ext. 5176.
