Actor and all-around Renaissance man James Franco will be accepting the HBO Latin American Ally Award for his career accomplishments and LGBT support at this year’s Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.

The award presentation will take place on Saturday, April 27 at the Olympia Theater at Gusman Center in downtown Miami. MGLFF hits theaters in Miami and Miami Beach from April 26 to May 5.

“We are thrilled to host an actor of James Franco’s caliber at the Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival,” Franc Castro, executive director of the MGLFF, said in a statement.

“His multi-faceted talents coupled with his contributions to LGBT film both in front of the camera and behind the scenes have helped shine the spotlight on LGBT cinema and a filmmaker’s right to free expression.”

Franco has shown several times he’s comfortable with his sexuality. The actor has so far participated in three gay-themed films, including, “I Want Your Love,” a film that tells the story of a young gay man in San Francisco who prepares to return to his Midwestern roots (it was banned in Australia), and a homoerotic short film called “Interior. Leather Bar.

“Part of what I’m interested in is how these people who were living anti-normative lifestyles contended with opposition," Franco told Attitude magazine regarding his choice to play gay roles. “Or, you know what, maybe I’m just gay.”

His performance alongside Sean Penn in the film about the life of gay rights advocate Harvey Milk, “Milk,” earned Franco an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actor. Sergio N. Candido
