“So it was really difficult going into surgery?”

“I had faith so faith kept me alive. Actually an angel came to see me believe it or not. He came in, you know. I’m gay so I live in Wilton Manors. So this guy says to me, ‘You’re Franky.’ And I looked at him, and I said, ‘No.’ And he had a really heavy Brooklyn accent, and that’s where I’m from. I said, ‘My middle name’s Franky.’ He said, ‘Yeah, your name’s Franky.’ And that’s my middle name. I was blessed with that name. And he gave me the sign of the cross, and he said, ‘You have nothing to worry about. You’re going to be okay.’ And as he was walking out of the room he just disappeared.”

“Do you remember your happiest moment?”

“My happiest moment? That was when my partner held my hand for the first time in the train in Paris because he’s French so that meant a lot to me. I had never had that intimacy in public before so that intimacy was special to me.”
“Everything happens for a reason, mama. Everything happens for a reason.”

“I’ve seen a real fire before this. But it was controlled.”

Seen in northern Wilton Manors.
