In celebration of Bisexual Visibility Week, GLAAD and BiNet USA are teaming up to deliver a twitter chat with bisexual politicians on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. EST.
Politicians include first openly bisexual Governor Kate Brown (OR), first Latina Representative JoCasta Zamarripa (TX) and Representative Mary Gonzalez (WI), the first openly pansexual elected official in the United States.
The chat will be moderated by the Victory Institute and GLAAD, and will “focus on the current political climate and its implications for the bi+ community, the importance of bi+ people running for office, and their own experiences as being bisexual+ in American politics.”
BiNet USA President Lynette McFadzen said in a press release, "BiNet USA is excited to partner with GLAAD for #BiWeek. By working together, we have created great change for our community. We anticipate making further strides in improving our community’s issues and concerns."
GLAAD will also be launching a video featuring bisexual celebrities sharing supportive messages geared towards bisexual youth. They will also feature a “photographic spotlight on bisexual people over the age of 50, a collaborative video with Planned Parenthood and BiNet USA, sharable graphics for bisexual+ people and their allies, guest posts from leading bi+ advocates, profiles of notable bi+ change-makers, and much more.”
“At a time when bi+ people are often erased from entertainment media, news, and even LGBTQ advocacy, Bisexual+ Awareness Week is a crucial initiative that brings much-need[ed] awareness to bi+ people and issues,” said GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “GLAAD is proud to have co-founded #BiWeek and to continue to give platforms to stories of bi+ people that accelerate acceptance.”
