Bravo host Andy Cohen has found a much more fabulous way to boycott Russia’s anti-gay law than pouring vodka down the drain: he’s boycotting the Miss Universe pageant.
Cohen, who co-hosted the 2012 Miss Universe pageant with Giuliana Rancic in Las Vegas, said he won’t be doing it again this year in Moscow.
“heir discriminatory policies make it unsafe for the gays who live there and gays coming to work or visit,” he told E! News. “The law is that anyone under suspicion of homosexuality can be arrested," he said, adding he "didn't feel right as a gay man stepping foot into Russia.”
Following Cohen’s comments, a New Jersey gay fan of the annual beauty pageant has started a petition to get this year’s location changed, fearing gays fans and employees of the organization could be at risk.
The online petition has garnered over 27,000 signatures as of press time. The 2013 Miss Universe pageant will take place on Nov. 9.
