If you enjoy “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” then you’re going to love “Garage Queen,” the new monthly drag competition kicking off in June at Arts Garage in Delray Beach.

The hip nonprofit concert venue and gallery space, tucked away in a parking garage in the seaside village, will host the pageant-style contest on the first Friday of each month, beginning on June 1 and culminating with the grand finale on Sept. 7. Each month, celebrity judges and the audience will send three contestants packing until there is only one, the very first Garage Queen.

Arts Garage has long championed the diverse communities of South Florida, said Marjorie Waldo, president and CEO.

“Arts Garage believes in connecting our community to the world through the arts. Every expression of art represents a diversity of cultures and experiences. When we provide our community the opportunity and access to arts programming, we create a vehicle for transformation— for individuals, for communities and for the globe,” she explained.

Garage Queens will be hosted by Ariel Rimm of the Haus of Chanel, the drag alter ego of Gerald S. Arroyo-Prada.

A graduate of Florida Atlantic University with a B.A. in theater performance, Rimm has appeared on stage with Katy Perry in Orlando for the opening night of the singer’s California Dreams Tour in 2011. She’s also been featured at the late Pulse Night Club in Orlando. Rimm credits Pulse for giving her the confidence to continue to pursue drag.

Her stage credits include a one act play, “Dying with Dignity,” written, produced and showcased at F.A.U. but she is most recognizable for her eight-year tenure with the university’s annual homecoming drag show, where she worked with many of the region’s best known performers.

“I’m ecstatic to bring some shining highlight—and I’m not just talking about makeup—(to) the fierce world of drag with a new type of drag event (for) the South Florida community. Diva, we’re about to give Delray a new kind of makeover! Ready to slay, Queen,” promised the host.
